Hi, I’m Becky.

There’s nobody else like me—I’m just me. Like everyone, I’ve had things taken away from me in life, but what keeps me going is the hope that by sharing my journey, I can help others.

I live with cerebral palsy, autism, an intellectual disability, epilepsy, functional neurological disorder, diabetes, and chronic mental health challenges. These are all part of who I am, but they don’t define me. They shape my perspective, my resilience, and my drive to make the world a kinder, more inclusive place.

It feels really special that my very first blog is being shared today, on World Dream Day. This day reminds us that dreams and hopes are a vital part of humanity, and that they connect us all. My dreams include building a life with my fiancé Mitch, finding meaningful employment, improving my health, and creating more inclusive communities. This is what keeps me moving forward and I want to encourage everyone who reads this blog to dream boldly too.

Sometimes, I feel like I’m stuck. Like I’m caught in the middle, not knowing how to move forward, and I know I’m not alone. So many people feel this way, whether you’re living with disability, living with domestic violence, are ageing, or just dealing with the pressures of everyday life. Nobody is perfect in this world.

One thing I’ve learned is that most smiles are started by another smile. That’s why I chose to include Frank A. Clark’s quote for today:

“Most smiles are started by another smile.”

This quote helps me regulate my feelings, reminding me that kindness is contagious and healing.

As it’s World Dream Day, I wanted to share some of my goals and dreams. Like many of you, I have goals that matter deeply to me and include:

  • Finding employment where I feel understood and supported and offers career advancement opportunities

  • Building a life with Mitch, a loving marriage, home, and a supportive community.

  • Improving my health and managing my seizures and mental health.

  • Advocating for more accessible and inclusive spaces.

  • Growing my confidence in communication — at work, in the community, or even at the bowling centre.

To me, good employment means more than just a job. It means:

  • Employers taking the time to really get to know employees—their strengths, needs, likes and dislikes.

  • Employees being self-aware and open about what works for them.

  • Clear processes, communication, and feedback systems that make work a safe and supportive place.

Why This Blog?

I want this blog to be a place where we can connect—a like-minded community that supports one another, feels heard, and has fun.

Here, we can:

  • Share solutions and ideas.

  • Build understanding and awareness.

  • Celebrate differences while learning from each other.

  • Advocate together for a kinder, more inclusive world.

It’s okay to clash sometimes—we’re all unique—but even in our differences, we can teach by example. With kindness, patience, and understanding, we can create a ripple effect that makes life better for everyone.

So here it is, my very own blog 'Becky’s Blog'. Launched on World Dream Day, a reminder that every dream matters. This is a space for honesty, connection, learning, and kindness. Let’s dream together—and make kindness our reality.

With kindness and a smile, Becky 💜
