On April 22nd, around 1 billion people around the world take action to raise awareness of the climate crisis and bring about behavioural change to protect the environment. This is called International Earth Day. It’s a time to appreciate our planet and take action to protect it. Here in Australia, with our stunning beaches, vast outback, and unique wildlife, Earth Day is the perfect opportunity to step up and become an Earth Warrior!

Did you know?
By using one reusable bag instead of a one-use plastic bag, you will save 600 plastic bags getting into our waterways and contaminating the planet. WOW!
By recycling one can of soft drink you will save enough energy to power a TV for three hours. AMAZING!
By shutting down your computer when it's not in use you will cut the energy consumption by 85 percent. IT’S TRUE!
For every km you walk, instead of drive, you will save one kilo of pollution from going into the air. TAKE A BIG BREATH!
The power is in your hands!
Let’s work together as Earth Warriors to keep our plant healthy. It doesn’t take much to make a big difference! Here are some simple but powerful ways you can celebrate Earth Day and help keep Australia beautiful.
1. Plant a Tree
Trees are nature’s superheroes. They absorb carbon dioxide, provide oxygen, and create homes for wildlife. Whether you plant one in your backyard or join a local tree-planting event, this is an easy and impactful way to give back to the planet.
2. Say No to Plastics
Plastic pollution is a massive problem in Australia, especially for our marine life. Reduce your plastic use by bringing reusable bags, bottles, and coffee cups wherever you go. Also, swap out plastic straws for reusable or biodegradable alternatives. Small changes add up!
3. Turn Off the Tap
Did you know that turning off the tap while brushing your teeth can save up to 10 litres of water per minute? Water conservation is crucial, especially in a country like Australia, where droughts are common. Be mindful of your water use—every drop counts!
4. Switch Off and Unplug
Electricity use contributes to carbon emissions, so turning off lights and appliances when they’re not in use can help reduce your footprint. Plus, unplugging devices when they’re fully charged can save even more energy. Bonus: it lowers your electricity bill too!
5. Get Involved in a Clean-Up Event
Many communities host clean-up events on Earth Day to help remove litter from beaches, parks, and public spaces. Volunteering for a few hours can make a massive difference in keeping our environment clean and safe for wildlife.
6. Choose Sustainable Transport
Cars contribute significantly to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. If possible, walk, bike, carpool, or use public transport instead of driving. Not only will you reduce your carbon footprint, but you’ll also get some fresh air and exercise!
7. Support Eco-Friendly Brands
From clothing to household products, many companies are making an effort to be more sustainable. Look for brands that use recycled materials, ethical practices, and minimal packaging. By supporting these businesses, you’re encouraging more companies to go green.
8. Spread the Word
The more people who take action, the better! Share Earth Day tips with friends and family, post on social media, or even start an environmental club at school or work. Raising awareness is a great way to inspire others to join the movement.
Every Day is Earth Day
While Earth Day is a great reminder to take care of the planet, these actions shouldn’t be limited to just one day a year. By making eco-friendly choices part of your daily routine, you become a true Earth Warrior—helping to protect Australia’s natural beauty for generations to come.
